As photographers, we constantly scope out new shooting locations. While an untrained eye would think this abandoned building is ugly, I’ve actually been eyeing this area for years. I was pretty excited to finally put someone pretty in front of it (before it’s demolished and becomes another mid-rise apartment building).
For Bree’s creative headshots, I proposed the idea of using colored smoke bombs and she was like, “Let’s DO IT!” At first I was pumped, then kind of wanted to chicken out, but we fought our inner ‘squares’ and did it. Despite the constant paranoia of possibly being arrested for trespassing, we had a lot of fun setting off these (mostly harmless & smelly) colored smoke bombs.
With the wind, it was quite hilarious to watch Bree dance around, trying to quickly predict where the smoke would go before it blew out and/or made her gag. We went through several packs to achieve the perfect shots. Thanks to Bree’s husband, Sean, for lighting them for us and putting up with our shenanigans!
My up-for-anything model here is Bree McMahon – a graphic designer, cat-lover and Wisconsin-native, as well as the owner of B/M Creative in Charlotte, NC.
She’s teaching a graphic design (for non-designers) class for SkillPop – check it out! Update: It’s SOLD OUT! Congrats, my friend!
